AI video adoption in advertising has moved past the pilot stage. The IAB's own 2025 ad-spend research found most digital ad buyers already using or actively planning to use generative AI for video creative, and the platforms themselves back that up with real usage numbers, not survey intentions.
The harder question is whether it's actually working. This page pairs adoption statistics with the few real-world performance case studies we could verify against a primary source, most "AI ad performance" numbers circulating online trace back to a vendor's own uncited blog post, not an independent study, so we excluded those rather than pass them off as fact.

86%
Of digital ad buyers are using or planning to use generative AI to build video ad creative.
Buyers project genAI-made creative will reach 40% of all digital ads by 2026.
Our take: This is ad buyers, not audiences, the supply side is moving well ahead of demand-side comfort with AI content.

Ad buyer adoption
Three independent surveys of three different populations, ad buyers, marketing teams generally, and CMOs specifically, all land in a similar range: roughly a third to a half already deployed, another large chunk actively piloting. The BCG figure is the most conservative because it filters for CMOs who name content creation as a top priority, a smaller, more committed group than "marketing teams" broadly.
Half of advertisers are already using generative AI to build video ads; 86% are using or planning to.
Our take: Half already doing it, not just planning, that's a faster adoption curve than most new ad formats get.
IAB86.4% of marketing teams use AI in at least a few marketing areas; roughly three-quarters use it for media/video creation at some level.
Our take: The 75% figure for media/video specifically is the one worth quoting, "AI in at least a few areas" is too broad to mean much on its own.
HubSpot, 2026 State of MarketingAmong CMOs who prioritize content creation (n=97 of 200 surveyed), 32% already have AI live-action-style video generation deployed at scale, another 42% piloting toward deployment.
Our take: The most conservative number here because it's the most specific population, CMOs already prioritizing content, not marketers broadly.

Platform-level adoption
The platforms themselves confirm the survey data with real usage numbers, not intentions. What's notable is the gap TikTok's own research surfaces: most advertisers say they'll lean in further, but only 19% call their AI automation "fully integrated," meaning most of this adoption is still bolted onto existing workflows rather than built into them.
Over 9 million small businesses use at least one of Meta's generative-AI ad creative tools.
Our take: Small businesses out-adopting enterprise flips the usual B2B software adoption curve on its head.
Meta, Q2 2026 earnings call76% of advertisers expect to increase use of TikTok's AI ad features in the next six months; only 19% have fully integrated AI automation into core operations.
Our take: The 19% "fully integrated" figure is the more honest number, most of that 76% expanding usage is still bolting AI onto existing workflows.

Does it actually work
This is the uncomfortable section to write honestly: verified, source-attributed performance evidence is thin. Search "AI video ad performance statistics" and you'll find dozens of specific-sounding conversion-rate and ROAS numbers, almost all of them trace back to a vendor's own uncited blog post, not an independent study, so we excluded them rather than pass them off as fact. This is the one case study we could confirm directly, from BCG's own site.
A BCG-run pilot with Google Cloud for Hill's Pet Nutrition produced consumer-ready AI video ads 4-6x faster, at lower cost per concept.
Our take: One brand, one pilot. We'd want to see this repeated across a few more categories before calling it a pattern.

Frequently asked questions
Are companies actually using AI video for advertising yet?
Yes, and at scale. The IAB found 86% of digital ad buyers are already using or planning to use generative AI for video ad creative, and Meta reports over 9 million small businesses using its AI ad tools.
Do AI-generated video ads perform better than traditional ones?
The verifiable evidence is limited. A BCG-run pilot with Google Cloud found AI video ads produced 4-6x faster at lower cost per concept for one brand, Hill's Pet Nutrition, but most "AI ad outperforms traditional creative" statistics circulating online trace back to uncited vendor claims, not independent studies, so we excluded them.
What share of digital ads will be AI-generated by 2026?
Ad buyers surveyed by the IAB project generative-AI-made creative will reach 40% of all digital ads by 2026, up from roughly half of buyers already using it in some capacity.
How many CMOs have AI video generation fully deployed?
Among CMOs who prioritize content creation as a key focus, BCG found 32% already have AI live-action-style video generation deployed at scale, with another 42% piloting toward deployment, as of a 2025 survey of 200 CMOs.
